(In fact, the actual mermaid was sans clothing, but it was a lttle cold here, so we let that detail slip.)
Next we got on the trolley and got off at the stop next to the scientific exhibit of the lever and fulcrum. On one side of the fulcrum is a long pole with a rope at the end. On the other side is a short arm holding a 2500 lb. car. As you can see from the picture, even a wimp like me was able to lift the car easily.
We were walking around the city and Joan noticed a sign for an Ansel Adams photographical exhibit at the Washington Pavilion. So in we went!
We first enjoyed a film of his life and then viewed a good many of Mr. Adams' photographs, not only of Yosemite, but others as well. A very entertaining experience.
Then we walked along the Downtown Sculpture Tour on Phillips Street. This consisted of 55 original individual sculptures spread along an 8 block area. This is held each summer, and people can vote for their favorite.
Our last stop of the day was to the Battleship South Dakota memorial. As it would be nearly impossible to get the actual ship up the Big Sioux River, it was a clever outline in grass with the exact dimensions of the ship along with pieces of the ship like the bridge, gun turrets, achors, etc. Pretty cool.
