State, Church and River

Decided to leave the car parked in the garage and do a walking trip around St. Paul.  The day was gorgeous -- in the 80's and sunny with a light breeze.

Started at the Capitol Building and were lucky to join a group that was just starting the one hour tour.  Of course, it was composed of about 30 5th graders, two teachers and us.  But that was okay.  It was a great building from top to bottom.  Some highlights:  portrait of former governor, Jesse Ventura; a model of the Minnesota capitol building made from legos; climbing up to the roof; and seeing Minneapolis in the distance, as well as up close and personal to the gold plated horses.

Looking from the Capitol roof, we could also see St. Paul's Cathedral across a long promenade.  We then proceeded to walk to the cathedral and were impressed by its size and beauty.

Then we were off to the Mississippi River and walked across the bridge to Harriett Island where all the boats are tied up.  There was this one particular red houseboat which I took a liking to.  I could picture us cruising up and down the river or just docking wherever we liked....Paradise.

After a little bit, I decided it just wouldn't work out.  I would miss the Harris Teeter too much and it would be a very long way for friends and family to visit.......oh well, back to reality.
