Grand Teton First Look

Following the Snake River from Idaho Falls to Jackson Hole, Wyoming on another 2-lane road.  It did not take long to spot the Grand Tetons in the distance.

Taking a less-traveled scenic route over the mountains paid off as the views were incredible.

Arrived in Jackson Hole in the afternoon and took a walk around the town center which is known for the arches of elk antlers that are on all four corners of a square block to welcome you in.

Lest anyone be upset about how the antlers were obtained, please know that no elk was harmed in the procurement of them.  The antlers are shed each fall and re-grow in the spring.  Boy Scouts go around the mountain and pick them up to auction off for charity (or, in this case, to build arches) .... a form of recycling, okay?

By the way, as Joan was crossing the street and admiring the arches, she stepped in a cracked area of pavement and fell splat on her knees and hands.  As the trouper she is, she got back up and continued the tour  When we returned to the hotel, she put ice on her painful knee and bemoaned the pair of capris she ruined.  Happy Mothers' Day indeed!

In case you ever wondered what people did with their old skis, here is a very creative fence!
