Colby, Kansas -- the Great Metropolis

After the weekend of hearing on TV about the bad weather all over Oklahoma and Kansas, we were disappointed not to have the USA Today at our door this morning.  The woman at the Front Desk in Dodge City said they were too far out to get the paper delivered there.  OK.  We had breakfast and hit the road.  This was the main view for 2+ hours:

We continue to be amazed at the miles and miles of nothingness in this country!  Every time we went through a town, I would stop so Joan could try to find a newspaper.  This proved futile all the way to Colby.  And when she asked at the Front Desk on our arrival, Joan was offered the Salina Journal, a 16-page local paper published today.  OK.  We have come to realize that my awesome wife (oh but you are a silver tongued devil, Peter) is definitely a "city" girl.  There is no doubt about this.  Joan has enjoyed seeing all these small towns but couldn't live in any of them for very long.

About the only thing worth seeing in Colby is the Prairie Museum of Art & History.  And it was a fantastic museum.  Inside was a fantastic collection of  clothing, uniforms, toys, china, glassware, farm tools, etc. etc. etc.  The uniforms were actually owned by resident veterans from World War I to Afghanistan.

The outside consisted of a small house, a church, a school house, a huge barn (largest in Kansas moved in tact to the museum from 16 miles away) and a sod house:
