On both sides, we saw nothing but the occasional oil well and a barn or two as far as the horizon. As Joan was driving this leg, I got a great look and could not take my eyes away. It was beautiful in its emptiness. Wow!
When we did arrive in Wichita, we decided to spend the afternoon at Exploration Place, a museum dedicated to Knnsas history. As the state is known for tornadoes, there was a simulator that Joan stood in to feel the impact of the wind at tornado strength::
The below plane was made out of license plates. It was pretty cool. Bob, this shot is for you.
Miniature Kansas was the best display! This was a huge room with an entire town in miniature.
We still had time left, so we visted Botanica - the gardens of Wichita. Ths was quite a large property with fountains, pathways, trees and flowers of all types. It was beautifully laid out and labelled. We strolled around and enjoyed the displays. This wall had the plants growing sideways out of each opening.

We ate dinner in Old Town which is a renovated part of the city with historical buildings. We found a neat restaurant called River City Brewery. I tried to get a tee shirt, but they were out of stock. I saw a great sign in the bar and had to take a photo:
