ELVIS has left the building!

First thing this morning, we headed out to Graceland, home of the late Elvis Presley, his wife, Priscilla, and daughter, Lisa Marie,  None of them were there to greet us, but we had a chance to view the lower floor, the finished basement and the gardens.  We got a little history of where the name came from.  The original owner was given the land as a wedding gift from her Aunt Grace, so when she had the home built, she named it Graceland.  When Elvis bought it as a 22 year old young man just getting started, he decided to keep the name.

It was only a standard 2-story colonial when he bought it, but Elvis re-did the walk out basement to include a pool room, a media room with a mirrored ceiling, and a jungle room.  The decor was totally cool and looked like something I would have done myself.

In the back of the house, he added a racqetball building for his personal court and a hall of gold, lined wall to wall with his gold records and albums.  The tour ended in his meditation garden where are buried Elvis, his parents and grandmother.  There was also a memorial plaque for his twin brother who died at birth.

After seeing all the success he enjoyed and then to lose it all at the age of 42 because of an abuse of prescription drugs was just a tragedy.
