We then went to the "Cheyenne Frontier Days" Old West Museum. Frontier Days is a city-wide 9-day celebration which takes place at the end of July each year and is apparently a cross between Mardi Gras and the Olympics, with a rodeo each day. The museum had films of different events, along with previous winners.
Also displayed were various wagons and all types that played a role on the frontier. Here we are in a surrey with the fringe on top:
Joan liked the cowgirl outfit shown in the picture below and is thinking of buying something just like it to wear around Carolina Lakes.
We then drove over to the state capitol building where we seemed to be the only visitors at the time. One of the state troopers gave us the hint to take the elevator to the third floor and work our way back down......which we did as soon as I petted the huge buffalo on the main floor.
Here is the dome from the center of the ceiling. This is reminicent of the one we saw in Little Rock, Arkansas. the government buildings are really quite oppulent no matter where you visit in the US.
We visited both the House and Senate chambers and there was a clever poem posted on one of the walls in the waiting room outside the chambers.
Before we started back to Boulder, we stopped at the Union Pacific Terminal which is rated as one of the best on their line.....probably because it had cool boots outside!
