We went to the English mass this a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady Of Guadalupe. It was as big as St. Matthew Catholic and quite full, with tons of children.
We then walked around Old Front Street which is the Dodge City Downtown.
Below is a huge statue of a long horn cow on Front Street. Joan claims her favorite way to see a cow is on a plate in front of her, cooked medium-rare! I disagree.
We decided to check out Old Fort Dodge, a few miles out of town, thinking it would be a "fort" as depicted in our AAA Guide Book. This was a vital army outpost from 1865, established to protect the Santa Fe Trail from Indians. Generals Custer, Sheridan and Hancock figured in the history of the fort. The only thing we could see was the house used by General Custer when he was stationed there:
The rest was an old soldiers home run by the army and surrounded by houses. Exciting right? Well, they can't all be winners.
